Agartala, July 1, 2025: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of an undertrial prisoner, Kailash Roy, who died while in judicial custody at Bishalgarh Central Jail on June 29, 2025.
According to official sources, Kailash Roy, son of Late Babu Lal Roy, a resident of Khezur Bagan under NCC Police Station in West Tripura district, was arrested on June 21, 2025. He was facing charges under Sections 132, 324(2), 351(3), and 3(5) of the BNS.
Following his death, a preliminary inquiry was carried out in the presence of the local administration. In accordance with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) guidelines, a report was submitted to the authorities at AGMC and GBP Hospital on the same day. The postmortem was conducted at the hospital morgue, and the body was handed over to the family members.
Acting promptly on the incident, the Home (Prisons) Department, under the direction of the Chief Minister, has instructed the District Magistrate and Collector of Sepahijala district to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death. A press release issued by the Prisons Department today confirmed the directive and stated that a detailed report on the incident will be submitted following the inquiry.
