Kailashahar, June 29, 2025: Acting on a tip-off, police from Kailashahar police station arrested a man with a significant quantity of brown sugar from the North Kacharghat area on Saturday.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sukanta Sen Chowdhury said that they received information about a person named Govinda Chanda, a resident of Ward No. 3 of Dhaliarkandi Gram Panchayat under Irani police station, who was reportedly entering Kailashahar in an electric auto carrying brown sugar.
Following the lead, police personnel conducted a raid in the North Kacharghat area, intercepted the vehicle, and upon searching, recovered 10.5 grams of brown sugar concealed inside a soap case. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is between Rupees 60,000 and 65,000.
The electric auto used in the transportation was also seized, and Govinda Chanda was taken into custody. Preliminary investigations suggest he was bringing the drugs to sell in the city. Police have launched a detailed probe to ascertain if others are involved in this illegal operation.
