Neermahal Water Festival Concludes with a Call for Tourism Development

On 14th September 2025, The three-day-long traditional Neermahal Water Festival came to a grand conclusion at Rajghat, Melaghar, with Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha emphasizing the promotion of Neermahal and Rudrasagar’s history, heritage, and cultural significance on a wider national and international scale. The Chief Minister said that greater awareness will attract more tourists from across India and abroad, which in turn will boost the local economy and improve the livelihoods of the people of the area. Highlighting the uniqueness of Neermahal, one of the few water palaces in India, he noted that the beauty of the palace and its natural surroundings remain the prime attractions for visitors.

Chief Minister further stated that under the Swadesh Darshan Programme, different initiatives are being implemented to enhance Tripura’s tourism sector, with Neermahal included as a key component. He stressed that special focus is being given to the overall development of rural communities. Nearly 60,000 self-help groups have already been formed across the state to empower women and ensure self-reliance. He also appealed to all sections of society to work together in maintaining peace and building a “Ek Tripura, Srestha Tripura.” Presiding over the concluding ceremony, Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman said Neermahal and Rudrasagar are deeply linked with the livelihoods of the local people and stand as a matter of pride for the state. Also present on the occasion were Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Datta, District Magistrate Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, MLA Tafazzal Hossain, Nalchar Panchayat Samiti Chairman Swapan Kumar Das, Melaghar Municipal Council Chairperson Anamika Ghosh Pal Roy, Sepahijala SP Bijay Debbarma, Rudrasagar Refugee Fishermen Cooperative Society President Pabitra Kumar Das, social worker Uttam Das, among others.

After the traditional boat race, the Chief Minister along with other dignitaries distributed prizes to the winners of the state-level swimming competition, subdivision-level yoga contest, state-level Mansamangal competition, and different categories of boat races.
