Guwahati, Sept 18: Two students of a private university in Assam have been detained after a fellow student accused them of raping her, police said on Wednesday.

The alleged incident took place on the night of September 13 in Panikhaiti, around 55 km from Guwahati. The matter, however, came to light only on Tuesday, when the girl filed a complaint, following which a case was registered.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Amitabh Basumatary said during the investigation it was found that the girl, along with five male students, had attended a party that night. “She later went to her room in an intoxicated state. When she woke up the next morning, she realised that she had been raped by one of her male friends,” the officer told reporters.

Police identified the accused and detained two students, both minors, who have since been produced. “We are not disclosing their identities as they are underage. The investigation is underway,” Basumatary added.

Meanwhile, the private university authorities have suspended all five students involved in the incident. All of them are said to be from neighbouring Manipur.
