Tripura Set to Welcome Electric Train Soon

Marking a significant step toward sustainable transportation, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on Friday successfully conducted a trial run of an electric passenger train between Agartala and Arunachal Junction in Assam’s Cachar district. This achievement follows a similar successful test involving an electric freight train from Badarpur, Assam to Jirania, near Agartala.

These milestones are part of an ambitious ₹46 crore electrification project, initiated in 2022, aimed at integrating Tripura with India’s national electric railway grid.

According to senior NFR officials, essential infrastructure—including overhead electric lines, substations, and grid connectivity—has been completed in key areas of southern Assam and Tripura.

The power supply for these electric rail operations will be managed by Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL).
